The Vízmburk Castle ruins lie in the forests of the Kladsko Borderlands above the Úpa River valley, between the villages of Havlovice and Červený Kostelec. The castle is nicknamed Pompeii of the Podkrkonoší region because life in the castle ceased shortly after the Hussite Wars. Its ruins were overgrown for centuries under the rubble, and only the castle hill with the remains of the tower, ditches and ramparts testify to its location. It was only during archaeological research from 1972-1984 that the castle was literally dug out of the ground. Thanks to the enthusiasts of the Association for Vízmburk, an extensive reconstruction of the monument was completed in 2020 and is now open to the public. The castle offers guided tours with historical interpretation and regularly hosts events with a medieval focus. You can also spend the night in the castle, either on the ground in the south hall, or in the castle grounds in a tent or under an open-air tent on the grass. The grounds are equipped with a dry toilet and electricity.
