The Staré Hrady Castle and Château is located in the Bohemian Paradise, 15 kilometres south of Jičín. The first written mention of the originally Gothic castle, to which a Renaissance château and forecourt with preserved figural sgraffiti were later added, dates back to 1340. Albrecht von Wallenstein who bought it in 1628 is closely connected with the castle. Today, history and fairy tales are perfectly combined here. Young visitors can choose from 5 fairytale tours, which will be guided by fairytale creatures. In addition, the castle is decorated with hundreds of fairytale characters – children will see dragons, princesses, knights, giants, devils, watermen, elves and witches. During the summer holidays, the programme is spiced up with juggling shows or magic shows. Adults can choose a sightseeing tour with unique exhibitions from the times of the Habsburg monarchy called ‘What life was like during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I.’ After the tour, you can take a peek into the Gothic chapel from the late 14th century dedicated to St. John the Baptist in the first courtyard.
