The Dětenice Château

The Baroque Dětenice Château is part of the Dětenice Château Resort located in the village of the same name in the Bohemian Paradise, about 20 kilometres from Jičín. It was Beneš of Wallenstein and Dětenice who rebuilt the original wooden fortress into a Gothic stone fortress. The remains of the château tower and early Gothic cellars are still visible in the château. The estate was also owned by Albrecht von Wallenstein who acquired it at auction. Other owners worth mentioning include Count Jan Clamm-Gallas who had the château rebuilt in the late Baroque style to its present form. The last owner of the estate was Ing. Emanuel Řehák in the years 1926-1945, when the château was nationalised. In 1998 the dilapidated complex was bought from the state by Pavel Ondráček, who embarked on an extensive reconstruction and reopened the château to the public in 2000. Today, you can take part in several themed château tours – these include classical, witchcraft and fairytale tours. The château’s interior, with 14 fully furnished rooms, is based on archival materials from the 18th century and shows visitors the taste and lifestyle of the nobility on a typical country estate. In the welcome hall there is a unique 350-piece collection of weapons of the Knights of Malta, mostly from the Thirty Years’ War. The château also houses a large collection of hunting trophies. After the tour you can take a walk in the 4 hectares of the château park, where you will find dendrologically interesting and old trees.
